Robert Holm is Professor of Music at the University of South Alabama, where he teaches piano, directs piano ensemble and serves as faculty pianist for the Musical Arts Series. Recently added to the roster of Steinway Artists in Spring 2010, Holm is past president of the Mobile Music Teachers Association, principal pianist for the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and at Dauphin Way Baptist Church.

Holm began playing the piano at age five and later studied at the University of Illinois School of Music with Professor Kenneth Drake, where, in 1999, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature. He was a semi-finalist at the 4th International Adilia Alieva Competition (2004) in Gaillard, France, a finalist at both the 2003 International Franz Liszt Competition in Grottammare, Italy and the 2002 International Bartók-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev Competition in Radford, Virginia, and Third Prize winner at the 1997 International Beethoven Piano Sonata Competition in Memphis, Tennessee.

Holm has appeared several times as soloist with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and has performed as soloist and collaborative artist throughout the United States and Canada. From January 27-30, 2006 Holm presented four recitals of 18 sonatas by Mozart in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday and, in October 2007, completed a four-year, eight-recital series featuring the thirty-two sonatas by Beethoven. In 2006, Holm, violinist Enen Yu and cellist Guo-Sheng Huang formed the Archduke Piano Trio and have performed throughout Alabama and Mississippi. Since performing in the first recital given at the Laidlaw Peforming Arts Center in February 1998, Holm has given 32 solo recitals and over 120 collaborative recitals. In August 2010, Holm, flutist Andra Bohnet and clarinetist John Craig Barker will perform a Trio recital at Steinway Hall in London, England.

Holm has released several CDs featuring sonatas by Beethoven on period instruments, sonatas by Mozart, works by Scarlatti, Liszt and Ravel, two-piano music by Mozart, Brahms and Rachmaninoff with French pianist Axel Lenarduzzi, two CDs of Scott Joplin’s rags, two CDs of sacred hymn arrangements, and 10 original arrangements of sacred Christmas music.
